STUDENTS & FELLOWSHIPS
We have sponsored 90 Language & Literacy Graduate Fellows across nine doctoral programs since we began in 2008. Our graduates have careers in academia, private non-profits and the federal government.
Any doctoral student can apply to receive the Advanced Language and Literacy Science (ALLS) Certificate.
Student Opportunities
Undergraduate assistantship opportunities are awarded to current students seeking to begin or continuing research projects related to funded research under the supervision of Language & Literacy faculty across all affiliated disciplines.
Graduate Fellowships are available to students accepted into doctoral programs related to Research on the Challenges of Acquiring Language and Literacy. Program areas include degrees in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Education & Human Development.
Prospective Fellows
What is the fellowship?
RCALL Graduate Research Fellowships are available to full-time Georgia State University graduate students who are participating in research that is in the area of challenges to the acquisition of language and literacy from a wide range of disciplines. The student’s mentor/advisor must be an affiliate member of the RCALL faculty. Preference is given to incoming students and students working with faculty with a funded research program. Nominations are accepted each spring in conjunction with graduate admissions deadlines. Nominations are made by the faculty mentor and include a letter of nomination detailing the student’s area of research activity. Student nominees must provide a curriculum vitae (CV) and a brief statement regarding their research interest, relevant background and professional goals.
Compensation
The RCALL Graduate Fellowship includes a stipend of $30,000 prorated annually and full tuition remission, renewable for up to four years. Renewal is contingent upon an annual evaluation of steady progress in the student's doctoral program, participation in RCALL activities and progress in their research plan, demonstrated in part by conference presentations and publications.
Students are expected to participate in the Language & Literacy (L&L) Seminar and are strongly encouraged to pursue a graduate certificate in Advanced Language and Literacy Science to complement their doctoral degree program.
All students in related programs of study are eligible to enroll in the additional 18-credit hour Certificate in Advanced Language and Literacy Science. This certificate will broaden students' understanding of this interdisciplinary field of study.
